Supporting the work of Action Dignity
This past weekend, we participated in the Darling Details online market. The market was set to take place when the Black Lives Matter movement was really beginning to pick up momentum and attention. Luckily, the market was pushed back to allow space for the movement.
As a company, we recognize the importance of supporting our Black community. For the duration of the market, we committed to donate 20% of our sales to Action Dignity. They are a local, non-profit organization in Calgary, working to create a just and equitable society for all. They "facilitate the collective voice of Calgary’s ethno-cultural communities towards full civic participation and integration through collaborative action." We were able to donate $100 to Action Dignity through our sales.
Currently, Action Dignity facilitates programs in six areas: Leadership and Systems Change, Healthy Relationships, Community Connector, Youth Engagement, Advancing Fairness and Equity and Research and Policy.
Action Dignity recently released a statement about their response to the Black Lives Matter movement. They recognize the need to support our Black community, especially during this Global Pandemic. The Black community has been disproportionately affected by this pandemic, which we saw firsthand. The “JBS Plant in Brooks Alberta has highlighted how racialized workers, including Black immigrants, migrants and refugees are overly impacted by the outbreak.” (source: Action Dignity) To read the entire statement, please visit: Action Dignity's Response Regarding Black Lives Matter
Thank you to everyone who shopped during the Market to support both our small handmade shop and Action Dignity.
